Foraging Lilac Juice

My house smells amazing!!!

My all time favorite smell is definitely lilac. I look forward every year to the fragrance the beautiful flowers bring with them!

Did you know though that lilacs have many more benefits than just their beauty an smell!?

They:

  1. Aid in digestion

  2. Calm stomach aches

  3. Fight fevers

  4. Relieve coughs

  5. Rashes, sunburns, cuts and other skin ailments

So if you have a lilac bush let’s put its flowers to work for you in the form of lilac juice that you can use in recipes or turn into syrup or jelly down the road!

Recipe:

  • 2 cups lilac flowers

  • 4 cups boiling water

Pick your flowers and allow to hang upside down for a couple hours to remove any bugs. Bring the water and flowers to boil and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Pour flowers and water mix into a jar and allow to steep over night. Strain through a mesh strainer the next day.

To make into a jelly follow the same recipe as the violet jelly (https://www.ranchwifenecessities.com/life-of-a-ranch-wife/2023/4/21/a7gewpok00vlntjss31s7yrvpbm9uo)!

Enjoy!
